Fighting About Housework?

It’s estimated that as many as 80% of couples argue over housework and daily chores. The most common argument revolves around when to do housework, how to do it, and who should do it. We can help mediate some of the quarrels with some tips below.

Write a list

Organise a time for you and your spouse to make a list of what tasks you will each complete. Try to be as specific as possible, and outline when you want the tasks done. Be honest with one another about what you feel you can realistically achieve.

Compromise

Life contains many ups and downs, some weeks are busy whilst others are more calm. There will be times where you don’t get everything done, and that is ok. Prioritise immediate chores which are essential to the function of the home, and leave the rest for when you have more time.

It’s not about the housework

Quite often, arguments surrounding housework are really quarrels fuelled by frustrations rooted elsewhere. Stressors from work, the pressures of parenting or monetary worries can weigh heavily on us. Lending a helping hand to your partner when their stressors are high can go a long way in preventing fighting.

Outsource the work

If you and your partner are still arguing about the chores, consider hiring some help! You might need a fortnightly clean to keep the kitchen and bathroom clean, or a more regular service to keep on top of the day to day tasks. Jim’s can help with the daily cleaning tasks and laundry, or the less frequent tasks like carpets and windows to take the pressure off.

Over time, it can become a magnet for grease, smoke residue and food particles, and if left uncleaned, it can affect both […]

Ever go to clean the house and notice that you’re quite literally getting nowhere? Instead of going straight to wiping down benches and cleaning bathrooms, you are tidying spaces, putting things away, and preparing your space to be cleaned. If you’re noticing this to be a regular theme in your home, you may benefit from […]

Sustainable house cleaning Unfortunately, house cleaning is a task that we will continue to do for the rest of our lives. We are all guilty of stocking up on the cheapest products or buying bulk when our favourite one is on sale. However, just because these products are good for our wallet doesn’t mean they […]

One: My car was really, really dirty In my defence I am a busy person. Breakfast, school run, work, school run, sports, dinner, tidy up, bed, sleep start over. I never seem to have the time to spend on cleaning my car, especially the interior that takes a hammering. I did manage to drive through […]
