Cleaning For When You’re Time Poor

Life is busy, this is no surprise. Time is a precious commodity and sometimes there simply are not enough hours in the day. When we’re time poor, typically the first casualty is a messy home and a full laundry basket. We’ve compiled a list of tips to help you maximise your cleaning efficiency.

1. Set a Timer

Set a 15 minute timer and get as much as you can done in that time. Daily decluttering and tidying goes a long way in keeping the overall state of your home clean. It can seem like an overwhelming task at the end of a long day, but you will be shocked by how quickly the time goes, and much you can achieve in 15 minutes!

2. Wash Regularly

Do a load of washing everyday, or every second day. Washing is one of those tasks that simply never goes away. Doing a few loads throughout the week is a great way to ensure it doesn’t get to an unmanageable state.

3. Write a Schedule

Use a schedule. Mondays = bathrooms, Tuesdays = folding, Wednesdays = vacuum, and so on. Set a schedule that you think you can realistically accomplish and stick to.

4. Prepare the Room

Prepare the room for vacuuming by working from the top down. Dust and wipe benches, pick up any clothes or toys and put away any shoes in the way.

5. Invest in the Right Tools

Nowadays there are many products and tools available to simplify cleaning. We compiled a list of ‘Cleaning Equipment to Change Your Life‘ which you might find useful. Things like robot vacuums you can set to run while you are out, spray mops to tidy up minor spills and magic erasers to remove stubborn marks.

6. Outsource

Sometimes it does not matter what time saving tips you implement or what schedule you put in place, you simply cannot be in two places at once. Outsource the work to a professional to alleviate some pressure on yourself. Jim’s Cleaning can help with regular or once off home cleaning, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, pressure washing and car detailing.
