We vacuum. We wipe down counters. We might even tackle that junk drawer from time to time. But carpets and blinds? They’re the silent chaos-makers we pretend not to see — until something smells weird… or our allergies flare up… or we drop something and realise the carpet isn’t beige, it’s just dirty.
If you’re craving a clean, calm home and still feeling like something’s “off,” there’s a good chance these two culprits are to blame.
Let’s break down why carpets and blinds are the forgotten chaos creators — and how to take back control without breaking a sweat (or your back).
If you think vacuuming is enough to keep your carpets clean, we’re here to burst your bubble (gently).
Carpets are like sponges. They trap:
Even with regular vacuuming, a lot of the grime lives below the surface. And if your carpet’s starting to look flat, smell funky, or feel “crunchy” underfoot… it’s not your imagination.
Try these simple tricks to freshen up your floors between deep cleans:
Mix 1 cup of bicarb soda with a few drops of essential oil (think eucalyptus or lavender). Sprinkle over your carpet, let sit for 15 minutes, then vacuum.
Place an ice cube on the dent. As it melts, the carpet fibres will lift. Blot dry, then fluff with a spoon or soft brush.
Rubbing forces stains deeper into the fibres. Instead, gently blot with a clean, dry towel. Then use a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water to treat the spot.
But if the stains won’t budge — or there’s a smell that just won’t quit — it’s time to call in the pros.
Out of sight, out of mind… until you open your blinds one sunny morning and it snows dust.
Blinds are notorious for trapping:
And unlike curtains, blinds don’t get thrown in the wash — which means they can go months (okay, years) without a proper clean.
Use a dry microfiber cloth or glove to gently wipe each slat. Never soak timber blinds — moisture = warping.
Vacuum with the brush attachment on low suction. For stains, gently dab (don’t rub!) with mild soapy water. Test a small area first.
Fully roll them out and wipe with a damp cloth and a little dish soap. Dry with a towel before rolling back up.
Pro tip: Use a clean paintbrush to dust tricky corners and around cords.
